100 Days into the Year. 1 Month at Home

Today is the 100th day of the year… and that is significant because for the last two years, I’ve had at least 1 thing to master in 100 days. The first time I started doing this was in 2018 and New Years Day I committed to learning Bohemian Rhapsody on the Ukulele, just like Jake Shimabukuro.

Then again in 2019, I did While My Guitar Gently Weeps on the Ukulele, just like Jake Shimabukuro.

End of last year, my goal was to get as many certifications as I could in 100 days, that’s when I rapidfire got my CCSP, CRISC, and CISM. But I was at a loss at the beginning of this year. A lot has happened in the world that has changed life as we know it. Literally.

At the beginning of the year there was talks about a Coronavirus that was plaguing China and other parts of Asia… it eventually swept over to the United States and now everyone is trying to stay home to prevent the spread the of disease. The weather hasn’t been more beautiful during this time, gas is cheap, the economy sucks, about 17,000,000 have filed for unemployment (10% of the working population), and people are dying (we quickly became the world leader in most people affected and most deaths) while some think it’s a hoax or being blown out of proportion.

For the last month, both Jaime and I have been working from home to help flatten the curve. It hasn’t been bad as we have a lot to keep us busy and we’ve been socializing with our friends through conference applications… so that’s nice.

For the next 100 days, I’m going to learn Sweet Child O Mine on the Ukulele and I’m going to focus on AWS training. I’m also going to start using this website a little more.

Student Loans Begone!

I got my Bachelor’s degree in May of 2004

I know what you’re thinking… Dude, you’re were in the military, didn’t they pay for your school?
Yes, they sent me checks but I was younger, irresponsible, and needed the money. I also lived with a drunk who spent most of our money on booze.
My student loans got crazy. I’m glad I was able to take care of it now. Awesome.

Remote Stuff: Coronavirus/COVID19

Since the epidemic was announced and we’ve been having stay at home, we’ve done a lot of stuff remote. It’s been a 3 weeks now since both Jaime and I have been completely remote and the Coronavirus has started taking lives in Arizona. It’s been mandated to stay home for a month and a half (for now) Life goes on though.

This stupid thing is such an accurate summary of this first 90 days of the year.

But just because we are practicing Social Distancing, doesn’t mean we haven’t been seeing our friends and family.

I did a work happy hour with some friends, but I forgot to take a screen capture…

Here is the next day with our 105th fam.

Today was my brother’s 36th birthday!

And also we hosted an online ukulele session

COVID-19

Since the 11th of this month, we’ve been technically under lockdown. It was the beginning of things so we still went grocery shopping that Friday and also went out with our friends that one time. Since the 11th, we’ve been working from home and since last Saturday, we’ve remained socially distant. We had to get our taxes done. So we did that.

Everything is suspended in the meantime. Large gatherings, concerts, comicons, parties, going out to eat, ukulele nights… everything. It’s an interesting time. Groceries are sparse.

Scottish Highland Games 2020

Jaime was on call, so couldn’t go, so Allysen and I went to the Scottish Highland Games and met up with Booger and his parents, and we even got to see Marney. Turns out, we are awesome axe throwers. Here are some photos of our day!

FAIR (OpenFAIR Certified)

I took a class that Risklens teaches on the Factor Analysis of Information Risk. I really enjoyed the class. It was very good. That and I’ve been taught by Jack in the past… like 14 years ago when we were at Nationwide. Good times being around when FAIR was still being developed. I consider him an old friend and mentor.

The certification and testing is by The Open Group and I almost want to say that the exam was tougher than it should have been.

It was interesting, it was my first time taking an exam at home. I had to take photos of my workspace and have my webcam on me at all times. It was quite interesting.
