New Orleans, Louisiana! Summer Vacation 2021

After being vaccinated for a few weeks, Jaime and I took a couple weeks off to go hang out in New Orleans. We’ve always wanted to go and to be quite honest, I’m glad we didn’t go during Mardi Gras. We honestly initially thought that the city would have so much to offer, but it fell short of our expectations and lacked the whimsy that is sometimes portrayed in movies and television. Nevertheless, we did have a good time moving at our own pace and visiting things we wanted to visit.

We had a wonderful flight out there and had a decent place right there on Bourbon and Canal. Oh my, was it loud at night, every night!

RSA Conference 2021

A virtual conference is less than ideal. I’d much rather watch pre-recorded videos that I can fast forward/rewind and speed up/slowdown… Like on the YouTube.

It was for four days and I honestly put a lot of work in while I had the conference playing off to the side. I really enjoyed a presentation on the BISO, a role I hold.

Here are just a few pictures of some big deals in the infosec world.

Freedom?

This week, the new CA ISO started and I think I’m transitioning out of CA! It might be a bit to fully leave it, but I’m confident. Jaime and I already started talking of vacation! OMG!

Break

End of last week, one of my coworkers put in his notice, and of course I will pick up his area as we search to fill it.
I figured I should take just a little time off before I stay super busy… I took Wednesday and Thursday off and did nothing! It was great!
Though I went back to work today, I was told I was missed! How nice!

It was bad…

Honestly… we reviewed the metrics over and over… There was no way we could come out shining.
How could the company let things get this bad?

We went over and over the graphs, the presentation, and the pitch of the presentation though. All the way into minutes before presenting. The client loved it.

How I felt the rest of the day…

Gaelic Golfing

COVID Lockdown is pretty lax here in Phoenix and provided there is social distancing, and mask use, things were cool for us to get together in a public place. This time we chose mini-golf and of course with our group of fun people, we chose to dress the part. It’s not really cosplay, but dressing for the occasion. Golf originated in Scotland, so some of us took that to heart.

Good Job

Sometimes I can’t write about what my work day was about, but I did a good job today!

Setting Examples

I’m somewhat frustrated but somewhat satisfied that some leaders are not setting the right example and I’m going the extra mile and setting the example myself.

Genderbent Marvel Badminton

During COVID lock-down, our friends and I would social distance and wear masks and continue with some of our normal shenanigans, even if there wasn’t any conventions to go to. For this one, it was someone’s idea to gender-bend as marvel characters and go play some badminton as a fun activity to do.
