Ukulele Videos
When I first got interested in the ukulele, it was so many years ago. I was playing at home and going through the cabinets of the hutch in the dining room and I found an ukulele that my mom had. It had a crack in it and some of the strings were broken and others were loose, but I was just intrigued by it! I know I was young, I think I was still in the single digits, probably about 5-6 years old.
When I turned teenager, like many kids, I wanted to explore being a rock star. The music that was usually playing at the house was of the 60s, 70s, and rarely the 80s. Rock and Roll, and soft rock. Easy listening. Usually acoustic, but not always. I asked my mom for a guitar and she got me a Hohner St Olympic. It looks like a fender.
Many years later, after I lost the hobby of playing guitar, I brought my family to Hawaii. We were in Oahu and there was that alley where many Asian women sit at booths and ask you if they can help you. I picked up a cheap souvenir ukulele. I think it was $13.
That same trip, we went to the Polynesian festival and they had a class. I had to join it because I had to do everything! Never miss an opportunity that is present!
We were taught 3 chords and I took to it right away. It made me immediately think of when I used to play guitar. Anyway, we were done with vacation and for now the ukulele.
The following year, Jaime and I went back to Hawaii and on our second last day there, Jaime suggested an ukulele festival and I wasn’t that interested. But we didn’t know what else to do, so I agreed. We laid in the grass and listened for a bit, enjoying the weather and the sky and listening to people play. Then they introduced someone and so many people cheered for him. It was too crowded to see.
It was Jake Shimabukuro, whom I didn’t know from anybody at all. He was amazing and honestly, he inspired me to get serious about the Ukulele.
I bought a ‘real’ ukulele off of wish.com for like $40 and started learning chords and stuff. Then I found rockclass101.com and found some classical music tabs and I was like, “Yes! I want to learn that!”, but I needed an ukulele with a bigger fretboard. My wife saw I was serious about this hobby and for our anniversary, she got me a really nice ukulele!
I decided I wanted even more! So I looked online and found a meetup ukulele group that was conveniently near my house. The Phoenix Ukulele Group!
Anyway, needless to say, I got pretty decent at playing ukulele, I have many of them. Here’s some instrumentals that I have learned to play.
